Clean Edge, Inc. has been at the forefront of tracking clean-tech markets since its founding in 2000. The company is a publisher of thematic research on clean energy, transportation, water, and the grid. The firm is a joint developer of and contributor to the Nasdaq Clean Edge Green Energy™ Index (CELS™) and Nasdaq OMX Clean Edge Smart Grid Infrastructure™ Index (QGRD™), launched in partnership with Nasdaq in 2006 and 2009, respectively. Other indexes include the ISE Clean Edge Global Wind Energy™Index (GWE™), the ISE Clean Edge Water™ Index (HHO™), and the Nasdaq Clean Edge Global Water Index™ (GHHO™). All tracking financial products of Nasdaq Clean Edge indexes exceed $5 billion in assets under management (as of October 15, 2024 based on FactSet data). Managing director Ron Pernick is the co-author of two books, including The Clean Tech Revolution (HarperCollins, 2007), the first book to chronicle the growth and investment opportunity of the clean-tech market.

Clean Edge launches the first U.S. Clean Tech Leadership Index report series, tracking the clean-tech activities and performance of all 50 states, and adding the 50 largest U.S. metro areas in 2013. Clean Edge continued to publish this research for eight years.
